| DOSE: |
15 drops | sublingual | Ginkgo biloba | (tincture) |
| BODY WEIGHT: | 80 kg |
The bottle was 50ml in total and produced by a well-known German manufacturer. The strength of the tincture was 2:1 and had a distinct taste of leaf matter that could be discerned from the ethanol. The instructions were to take 15 drops in a small amount of water up to three times per day.
A typical experience with Ginkgo Biloba tincture that I would have would be as follows:
T+0:00 15 drops of tincture taken in small amount of water or dropped under tongue, with enough water drunk to ensure all was ingested as well as to take away the taste of the plant.
T+0:10-0:25 I feel a mild increase in concentration
T+0:10-0:25 I feel a mild increase in concentration
T+ 0:25-4:00 The duration and effects of Ginkgo can vary greatly depending on a plethora of other factors including tiredness, consumption of coffee, general mood, food eaten. What is very recurrent throughout my experiences of Ginkgo Biloba tincture is a sense of increased blood-flow and associated enhancement of sexual experiences, increased concentration on work or tasks and greater interest in formulating answers or arguments, mild ‘tunnel-vision’ that results from staring at the same page or area for longer than normal and from time to time a reduction in appetite.
T+4:00 The effects of Ginkgo may taper off or have completely subsided by this point. It seems unlikely that Ginkgo itself will cause any marked crash in the style of even a mild conventional CNS stimulant like caffeine. This at least is consistent with my personal experiences that have not involved a marked ‘spike’ or euphoria.
A few more notes – I personally undertook a reasonable amount of research into Ginkgo Biloba. I am not convinced that there is any vital benefit of this plant to healthy adults, but it may, as with me, give a useful boost in concentration if other prerequisites to good work such as an interest in a subject, a healthy lifestyle et al are present.
