DOSE:
5 mg oral Pharms - Escitalopram (daily)
BODY WEIGHT: 150 lb
I started taking escitalopram yesterday and took my second pill this morning. I'm not a fan of the present shape of the pharmaceutical industry, so I did not jump at the chance to take this drug. I was unwilling at first, but I kept an open mind and spend three weeks gathering information about this drug before deciding to follow my doctor's recommendation and take it. (She prescribed me the medication for depression and anxiety, although I still do not have a formal diagnosis.)

This is my first time taking a prescription drug that is psychoactive, and after all the build-up I'm glad taking it is not just a non-event for me, like popping a tylenol for a headache would be. Taking escitalopram for me so far is definitely more like 'taking drugs.' I am very sensitive and usually notice any small changes to my mindset, and after taking half of this little white pill yesterday I began to notice effects after about fifteen minutes. None of these effects are worrying, though - I could almost feel my brain relaxing inside my skull, and that mildly shivery feeling of 'something coming on' that I know so well from previous experience with psychoactive leisure drugs was also present. The difference was that the feeling did not lead into anything particularly recreational - instead, it was just a slightly different shade of 'normal.' My day was pretty normal.

It felt like a huge relief to actually put it in my mouth and swallow it - it felt like a hurdle had been overcome. After all the thinking and debating, all the information I found and read, and the whole difficult process of choosing to try it or not, I have finally committed to taking one of these little babies every day for at least the next few months. It feels good not to have the big decision hanging over my head anymore. I believe that this medication will help me and I am consciously welcoming its healing potential into my life.
