“The effect of (+)-lysergic acid diethylamide and other drugs on the carotid sinus reflex”.
Brit. J. Pharmacol.. 1958;13:250-259.
Abstract
In cats, LSD injected i.v. or intracerebrally selectively blocked the reflex blood pressure rise following carotid chemoreceptor stimulation. LSD reduced or abolished the chemoreceptor component of the pressor response to carotid occlusion. The site of action was central, probably below the intercollicular level. . Effects similar to those of LSD were produced by BOL 148, LPD 824 [lysergic acid pyrrolidid] LAE 32 and Dihydroergotamine Sandoz but not by ALD 52 [acetyl-LSD] mescaline, hexamethonium, atropine, acetylcholine and 5-hydroxytryptamine. Gynergen predominantly affected the baroreceptor component of the reflex. Chlorpromazine blocked the chemoreceptor rise when injected intracerebroventricularly.
