“Cross Tolerance between LSD and Psilocybin”.
Psychopharmacologia. 1961;2:147-159.
Abstract
In 2 series of experiments on 19 volunteers the development of tolerance to LSD and psilocybin was measured. LSD was given in increasing doses up to 1.5 mcg/kg over periods of 6 to 13 days; and on another occasion psilocybin in doses increasing up to 150 mcg/kg over a period of 6 to 7 days and 210 mcg/kg over 13 days. Cross tolerance to psilocybin was measured by administering 150 mcg/kg or 210 mcg/kg psilocybin to patients, who had been given chronic treatment with LSD. Cross tolerance to LSD was evaluated by "challenging" patients with 1.5 mcg/kg of LSD after they had been given chronic treatment with psilocybin. . "Direct" tolerance to LSD developed to a high degree. "Direct" tolerance to psilocybin also developed, although to a lesser degree. . Patients tolerant to LSD were, to a considerable degree, also cross tolerant to psilocybin and patients tolerant to psilocybin were cross tolerant to LSD.
