“Deaths attributed to 'ecstasy' overdose”.
Med J Aust. 1996 Jun 3;164(11):700.
Abstract
To the Editor: The recent recommendations for the use of dantrolene in the management of hyperpyrexia secondary to overdose of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), known as 'ecstasy', are unwarranted and unsubstantiated.

Hyperthermia associated with MDMA abuse is most likely due to a central effect on thermoregulation. There is no evidence that the action of dantrolene on excitation- contraction coupling in skeletal muscle will reverse this effect.
