Abstract
The identification of LSD and the ergot alkaloids ergotamine, ergometrine, ergocornine, ergocrystine and ergocryptine is described The sample was subjected to TLC on silica gel film. IF Value for the 6 substances were listed for the solvent systems benzene -ac atone - ether - 25 % NH4OH (4: 6:1:0.3 ), chlorof ormbenzene (5:4) saturated with formamide and mixed with 1 part MeOH and benzene-heptane-chloroform-NHEtz (4:2:3:1). The plates were sprayed with either a 0.3 solution of sodium i,2naphthoquinone-4-sulfonate in EtOH-H2O (1:1), which gave redpurple spots on a light pink background, or with a 0.2olution of 2-nitroso-1-naphthol, followed by i0% Hal, when (after heating) blue-black spots on a yellow background were obtained. Detection limit was 1 -mug. The reactions were specific for the ergot alkaloids and LSD, no color being obtained with reserpine, emetine, quinine, strychnine, pilocarpine, atropine, scopolamine, cocaine or opium alkaloids.
