“Striatal Dopa-Accumulation in Rats after Lesions of the Dorsal and Median Raphe Nuclei”.
Acta Physiol.Scand.. 1976;? (Suppl. 440):168.
Abstract
LSD increases in vivo tyrosine hydroxylation in the rat brain and has profound biochemical and electrophysiological effects on the 5-hydroxytryptaminergic (5-HT) system. Striatal dopa accumulation after decarboxylase inhibition in rats after lesions of the dorsal and median raphe nuclei was studied. Electrolesions (2-3.5 mA D.C.) for 14 see via platiniurniridium wire electrode) were selectively placed in the regions of the dorsal and the median raphe nucleus. Rats were killed 14 days after operation and lesions were histologically verified. Striatal dopa levels in rats with raphe lesions did not differ from unoperated controls. LSD and 2-bromo-LSD increased the dopa accumulation in rats with raphe lesions as well as in rats with intact raphe nuclei. These findings do not suggest that the effect of LSD on the dopa accumulation is secondary to its effect on the 5-HT system.
