J.Pharm.Sci.. 1976;65(11):1585-89.
Abstract
The qualitative analysis by TLC of drugs of abuse is re ported. Silica gel TLC of the common drugs of abuse listed below was performed using the following solvent systems; CHCl3/ether/ MeOH/NH4OH (75:25:5:1), EtOAc/PrOH/NH4OH (40:30:3), MeOH/ NH4OH (100:1.5), alcohol/HOAc/water (60:30:10) or benzene. lhe drugs were visualized by use of UV light, or by ninhydrin, iodoplatinate, Ehrlich, HgC12-diphenylcarbazone or diaztoized benzidine reagents. R new spray reagent ninhydrin-phenylacetaldebyde was also developed. The systematic use of the spray reagents enabled one of the drugs examined to be identfied with 2-4 TLC plates Compound Alkaloids Atropine Caffeine Cocaine hydrochloride Codeine phosphate Ephedrine sulfate Heroin Lysergide Mescaline hydrochloride Morphine sulfate Nicotine salicylate Opium Papaverine Physostigmine salicylate Psilocin Psilocybin Quinine sulfate Scopolamine hydrobromide Yohimbine hydrochloride Nonalkaloids that give positive alkaloidal reactions 1idocaine hydrochloride Meperidine Methadone hydrochloride Methapyrilene hydrochloride Methaqualone Methylphenidate hydrochloride Pentazacine hydrochloride Phencyclidine hydrochloride Procaine hydrochloride Propoxyphene napsylate Barbiturates Amobarbital Phenobarbital sodium Secobarbital Amphetamines Dextroamphetamine sulfate Methamphetamine hydrochloride Miscellaneous Aspirin Benzocaine Cannabidiol Cannabinol Glutethimide Meprobamate Phenytoin sodium Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannabinol Thiopental
