Drugs are part of the environment for all young people in Britain today. Research suggests that most will be offered illegal drugs, usually by their peers, and nearly half will have experimented with them before leaving school. However their doctors are probably not aware of their use of street drugs. Youngsters are unlikely to confide their drug use spontaneously to their GP and, fearing censure or lack of confidentiality, may be reluctant to do so even if asked directly.
