Abstract
Studies on neuroleptic-induced inhibition of spontaneous locomotion (pD2) and LSD-potentiated apomorphine-locomotion (pA2) in the rat are reported. Neuroleptics inhibit locomotor spontaneous activity in rats in the open-field test. Subeffective doses of the same neuroleptics are able to shift the dose-effect curve of the LSD (100 mcg/kg i.p.) potentiated apomorphine locomotion increase, and tn cause drug- and dose-dependent non-competitive reduction. A correlation can be demonstrated between pD2 and pA2 value. Cyproheptadine (100 mcg/kg and 200 mcg/kg) is able to antagonize the potentiating effect of LSD on apomorphine-induced locomotion increase in the rat. A qualitatively similar effect has also been demonstrated for danitracen (100 mcg/kg and 500 mcg/kg) and pizatifen (500 mcg/kg). The 2 agents did not influence locomotion in NaCl controls or the apomorphine effect.
