“Hyperthermic and neurotoxic effect of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) in guinea pigs”.
Psychopharmacology (Berl). 2003 Dec 9;Published(On-line).
Abstract
No Abstract provided: Authors tried to follow up early findings of possible dopamine neurotoxicity in guinea pigs (Commins 1987), but failed to do so. Male guinea pigs received 20 mg/kg MDMA twice daily for one or three days. This resulted in lower levels of serotonin and its metabolite 5HIAA, but no reduction in dopamine. Unlike mice or rats, hyperthermia was not as pronounced in guinea pigs, except after the first dose.
