Adapted from an address read at the meeting of the Mississippi State Association of Graduate Nurses, Hattiesburg, Mississippi, October 1924. The author, an anesthetist, describes aspect of ethylene anesthesia.

...On April 27, 1923, Doctors Luckhardt and Carter reported the first 106 cases in which operations were performed under ethylene gas at the Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago. In the article dealing with ethylene as a gas anesthetic, we enumerated the various types of operations that had been performed under ethylene. It is sufficient to say that the gas has been used in almost every type of surgical procedure...
