“Book Review: Persephone's Quest: Entheogens and the Origins of Religion by R.G. Wasson, S. Kramrisch, J. Ott, & C. A.P. Ruck”.

Abstract
When R. Gordon Wasson died at the end of 1987, he left an impressive body of published work on the importance of mushrooms in the culture and religion of peoples as diverse as Mexican Indians, Siberian shamans, ancient Greeks, and ancient Aryans. In the later years of his life, Wasson became convinced that the origin of religion was to be found in the use of psychoactive mushrooms, especially Amanita muscaria, which he identified with soma, the magical plant potion of the Aryans (p. 78).
