I recently had an experience with Psilocybe Mexicana truffles which I thought could be helpful to someone considering trying this or something similar. The material was bought legally in Amsterdam in the Netherlands and was my third experience of this drug, although these instances were spread over a period of several years. I didn't heed all the warnings on the leaflet and at the time of taking the first dose I had smoked some cannabis and drunk a small amount of alcohol (0.5 L of beer, about 2.5 units) within the last two hours. I wouldn't recommend mixing these drugs if you haven't had psilocybin before; cannabis is a mild hallucinogen itself and may intensify the experience. However, I had a good experience in this case.
The setting was my hotel room in Amsterdam in the early evening with one of my best friends, who was sober. He passed the time mainly watching TV and chatting to me, while I was able. He was quite interested in how the trip would affect me and I tried to convey a measure of my experiences as they progressed.
T +0:00 (6:40 PM): I ate about 5 grams of the 10 gram box of truffles. They tasted quite good, especially combined with the after taste of an orange.
T +0:30 (7:10 PM): I could feel some effect, although at this stage it was still only mild. The main thing I noticed was a slight stimulant effect, like I had become marginally more awake and the remaining effect of the cannabis was lightening quicker than it usually would. I ate some more truffles, leaving about the last third in the box.
T +1:00 (7:40 PM): There was now a distinct change in perception that I can identify as the drug, based on my previous experiences. I was starting to see extra processes going on in the room. When I touched the fabric of my trousers a subtle wave spread out beyond the material that had actually moved. Some of the straight lines in the room started to look a bit bendy. It all felt quite manageable and I ate the rest of the truffles.
T +2:00 (8:40 PM): As I suspected would happen, the intensity of the trip had climbed rapidly over the last hour and I realised this was going to be quite an involving experience. My friend had offered to go out and get some food for later and, in the 15 - 20 minutes he was away I started to get the feeling that three things in my mind were in fact the same thing: thoughts, senses and feelings (emotions).

Talking became a bit difficult for a while. This was only because my attempts to start sentences often broke down into giggling before I'd said anything and I was feeling so calm and content that it was easier to sit back and contemplate. This aspect is something to consider if you're thinking of trying this drug; it makes me feel relaxed to the point where I don't feel the will to do much for a few hours. This is fine if you're happy to sit around giggling and doing simple things like eating a piece of stollen bread and seeing how each mouth full becomes a 3D journey. I wouldn't take it if I was intending to go out for a meal or to a party for example. Also, being around people you trust is a good idea. I had some insight into how a trip could turn bad. There was a sense of being out of control in that I knew I would be in this state until the drug wore off, like it or not. For me this aspect added something positive to the trip, though I imagine some people wouldn't like that feeling.
T +4:00 (10:40 PM): The peak phase lasted for about two hours, after which I was talking more fluently and taking a mild interest in the subject of the drama that was on TV (note: some UK TV channels are broadcast in the Netherlands). I was still mostly looking at the ceiling or having closed eye visuals rather than watching the TV though. I gradually reintegrated with the normal processes of life and around 11:30 PM I was able to take part in eating a ready meal lasagne in the hotel dining room. The visuals had subsided a fair bit although the table surface looked like a runny egg in places and shifted around curiously. I felt a little faint at times but this was manageble and the food helped to counter this. I would say the trip was mostly over by T +5:30, or 3.5 hours after the peak.

In conclusion, I agree with the policy in the Netherlands of allowing the use of cannabis and several hallucinogens including this drug. I had a great experience although I am not trying to encourage anyone to do this and, if you are considering a first time trip there are a few notes of caution I can give. I have mentioned the importance of setting and the possible effect of mixing other drugs; these things are worth considering and I have another friend who had a rather tough experience after getting these factors 'wrong', to use his words. If you use the drug in a country where it isn't sold legally you should try to research the potency of the material you are trying to get. I bought the smallest available (10 g) box of the truffles marked 'mild' and, although I have had a stronger dose before I would say this dose was quite enough for the situation.
