Psylocybin Enhanced Musical Meditation

I am in my mid-thirties and have had a growing interest in psychedelic substances as an outsider for the past 2-3 years. In my early to mid-twenties, I had my first experiences with Cannabis, which led to a few years where it was a leisurely medium part of my life due to the friends I had around me and at that point in my life it suited me just fine. I have left most of that behind me, but my relationship with Cannabis is one that I nurture and enjoy on rare occasion still today. I find this is relevant because I have had situations in the early days where the limits of cannabis intoxication were tested, and I feel that in those situations I maintained stability without panic attacks, mania or depression during or after. This is what gave me the confidence to dabble with light doses of hallucinogenic substances now.

Over the past few years, I have been getting more acquainted with people or learning through various medias that speak about the transformative effects of various hallucinogenic substances. Many speak of ego dissolution and being confronted with challenging situations that have had formative effects on their life in a positive manner, even if the trip was negative, or more than they bargained for. The opportunity to experience something like this seemed interesting. I had received some microdose psylocibin chocolates, some of which I enjoyed over a longer afternoon a few weeks before this event. Although my experience was similar to a cannabis edible, my interest grew, and then a moment in my life presented itself to have my first real experience. I received 1.5 grams dried mushrooms from a dear friend and was told it would be enough to have a pleasant first experience.

When the day came, I prepared a Lemon Tek around 16:00
When the day came, I prepared a Lemon Tek around 16:00
where I soaked the dry mushrooms in fresh pressed lemon juice for an hour and then squeezed the juice through a coffee filter with a garlic press. I brewed a cup of fresh ginger tea and added the mushroom-infused lemon juice to the tea. I drank the tea around 17:00 and turned on my Xbox to pass a little time. After about 45 minutes I was having a hard time focusing on my video game and decided to do what someone had recommended to me, which is put on my best quality headphones with a comfortable music choice, lay in bed or on the sofa, just close my eyes and drift a bit.

Around an hour in, I was starting to feel the effects of the psylocibin while I laid on my sofa listening to a classical meditation playlist. Explaining a hallucinogenic trip feels a bit like trying to describe a dream. It started with just a moderate warm stoney feeling. The visuals weren’t much to note, until (this is where the trip probably officially begins): I pictured myself as a hunchback, with the weight of stress and troubles on my shoulders. I had a moment where I thought, “I don’t want to live like this. I don’t want to go through life being weighed down by baggage. I have to find a way to let it go.” Somehow this thought pushed me through some kind of wall or barrier where on the other side, I felt two dimensional like a shadow on the ground. There were 3 or 4 tall and lanky 2-dimensional shadow-like beings that reached their hand down to me to pull me up off the ground. After that, the visuals were no longer specifically memorable in this same sense, despite that this is probably around the peak. The visuals that I did have seemed colorful and wavy, but not particularly abstract.

I was very moved by my soundtrack as I laid on the sofa and let my mind drift. Around 19:00, while I was still well on my trip, my wife came home (who was warned days in advance that this would be taking place). While she was preparing some food I got up off the sofa and tried to explain how I was feeling. The whole experience felt like a big hug from the universe, like I was in a warm bathtub of love. It was as if the music is like an ocean and generally experienced while on a beach or on a dock, but the psylocibin effects made me feel like I was swimming in the warm ocean of music, feeling the pull of waves and currents on my body. Sometimes a song would make me feel like I was on the surface, getting pushed around by swells while the next would make me feel an incredible sense of peace as if to be deep below the surface. I told my wife there were moments I felt like I could hear a solo pianist breathe during the song. At one point I thought about putting on music that was more “trippy”, but I was so moved by the incredible warm feeling I was experiencing, an improvement didn’t seem likely. A few times I opened my eyes, and it looked like my TV was falling over, but I realized that it was just a little wavy hallucinogenic feeling that made me chuckle and close my eyes again.

Around 20:00 I was starting the come down.
Around 20:00 I was starting the come down.
I spent about another hour on the sofa with eyes closed, enjoying my classical music, but noticing that the effects were wearing off. For a moment I was disappointed, but I felt that rather than be disappointed that it was wearing off, I realized I should be grateful for the incredible experience that I had just had, and that I would be interested in doing it again.

Having had this experience behind me for about two weeks, I decided it was time to sit down and get it into writing. I think 1.5 grams was a great introductory dosage to psylocibin mushrooms. It felt like I was looking at the universe through the lens of love. Everything felt a bit rosy. But the light visuals I experienced were only when I closed my eyes and let my thoughts wander, which was an incredibly beautiful experience. I didn’t really have any thoughts that led to any uncomfortable situations, which is probably for the best for a first-time experience.
