A Gentle Introduction

I've had one experience with psilocybin mushrooms. I'd been anticipating using mushrooms for about 14-15 months or so. During that time, I'd scoured message boards and websites for information and stories about it and psychedelics in general. Major parts of my interest were in philosophical thinking and personal exploration.

During the time I took them, I was in a relatively good state of mind. As a young college student I was facing the anxieties of the future, but still managing to enjoy myself sometimes. My friend was in a somewhat similar state, but dealing with some depression after some overuse of MDMA.

It was roughly half a year ago. A friend and I each ate half an eighth. I believe he got more because of an extra tiny cap that was in his bag, because he went much deeper than I did. More like what I'd expect from around 2.5 to 3 grams. I took 50 mg of the dietary supplement 5-HTP a couple hours beforehand.

I was expecting an immediately crazy life-changing experience, but what I got was more like a great peace. My mind wasn't running intensely, which is the norm for me. It was in the moment. Almost all of my human anxieties were distant memories. I also had some light visuals, such as a pattern on a kitchen chair obviously morphing right before my eyes. It was pretty cool. Onset took about 25-30 minutes I believe. When it first hit me, it was precise, like a switch suddenly went on. But it wasn't intense at all at first. I still almost felt sober. But it was still easily noticed. Not easy to describe. Something was just different all of a sudden. I was pretty talkative throughout, despite the fact that I'm normally very quiet. My friend said that I was acting similarly to how people act on MDMA.

My friend was getting obvious open eye visuals within about 15 minutes. The first thing he saw was a friendly giant sticking his head out from the door of a bedroom that was directly about 15 feet away from the left of the futon we were sitting on. He almost leapt back towards me in reaction. I was somewhat anxious going into the trip so I asked him to wave at it and see if it was a friendly giant. It made sense at the time. He waved, and he apparently waved back. Later on he fell on the ground on top of where some light carpet meets some dark carpet in the dark while I was in the bathroom looking at myself in the mirror. He had intense visuals of being sucked into a vortex in space and witnessed a representation of a battle between light and dark. He also had moments of deep introspection about life and himself. He was so happy at one point that he started crying.
