Summer has turned out to be a busy time for the Erowid crew. The
Stolaroff Collection project is deep underway; Earth and Fire are
preparing to give a talk at a hospital in Los Angeles, and we're
finishing up Erowid Center's tax reporting for its first full year of
operation, all while trying to stay cool in the brutal summer heat.
It got to 106F (41C) at Erowid North, 111F (44C) at Erowid Central,
and 102F (39C) at Erowid HQ this week.
According to The LA Times, Los Angeles County has over 400
medical marijuana dispensaries and delivery services, nearly double
Amsterdam's number of cannabis retail shops. More than 800 new LA
dispensaries have filed applications in the last two years.

In August 2008, Erowid ran an information booth at the week-long
Boom Festival in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal. Read about on-site drug
testing, misrepresented microdots, and other aspects of serving an

While preparing The Stolaroff Collection for scanning, we discovered
both handwritten notes and a copy of a letter from Laura Huxley
poignantly describing the period just before Aldous Huxley's death.
Check out these scans and transcriptions of the original documents.

Some sad news: On July 25th, Fire's parents' home and barn burned to
the ground. Everyone got out unharmed, but positive thoughts are
welcome as they deal with the crisis and make decisions about their
future. An important message: Don't use cheap power strips--a faulty
power strip used with their computer was determined to be the cause.
First published eight years ago and still as relevant as ever! Some
people get so excited about being offered mescaline, a relatively
rare drug, that they overlook basic physical laws of mass and volume.
This is Earth's pick for this month's "From the Vaults" section.
