Abstract
Stimulation of the exposed cortex in 4 patients undergoing brain surgery produced a response identical with the synaptical potential of apical dendrites in the cat. The sensitivity of dendritic synapses to d-tubocurarine injected locally was considerably less in the human subject than in the cat. By contrast, slow infusion of LSD into a cortical artery inhibited dendritic activity in a manner similar to that seen in the cat.
