Free-Use Material on Erowid
Images, documents, and other materials on Erowid have a wide variety of copyrights
associated with them. Some of them are considered "Open Use". Most documents
on Erowid are not Open Use copyrights and use restrictions and requirements can
be found on the Erowid Copyright page.

- A few items are 'uncopyrighted', meaning that no one owns the right to control how things are used. This is primarily true of documents which are very old and the copyright has expired or for documents which the original owner has explictily designated as "copyright free". Anyone may use any Public Domain work for any purpose without requiring permission.

- The Gnu Public License (GPL) is one of the earliest net 'open source' type licenses, but is actually a restricted license which only allows use of a work as long as all access to it is free and all copyright notices remain attached. For non-profit, freely distributable uses, anyone may use any work with a GPL or Copyleft copyright without requesting permission as long as authorship and copyright information remains with the work.

For commercial or non-commercial uses, FreeBSD-licensed materials may be used without requesting permission as long as authorship and copyright information remains on or with the work.
